What is Polaris?
Polaris is a space mission simulator. The goal is simple: Explore and conquer the entire galaxy. Getting there will be a challenge. You will lead the finest group of pilots, scientists, and engineers to send your civilization into space. Design your own space-faring vehicle, add equipment and weapons, and blast off to a far-away planet. Colonize as many planets as you can, and establish profitable mining operations on asteroids. Only you will be able to get us there.
Note: Polaris isn't finished yet!»Features:
- Interactive ship builder – Quickly and easily create, save, and play using your own ships. Simply create a module and constrain it to another module, and it will lock into place.
- Dynamic modular construction – All ships that you create in Polaris are made out of small blocks called modules. The modules are held together with constraints so that they act as one ship. You can easily chain together different types of modules to create the ultimate ship.
- Realistic zero-G physics – The physics system has been custom-made to support Polaris’ unique gameplay. With some skill on the controls, it is even possible to send an object into a near-perfect orbit around a planet.
- Realistic physical properties – All objects have properties such as pressure, temperature, melting point, structural integrity, and much more.
- AI control system – Polaris implements a ‘fly-by-wire’ control system, which allows ships to be steered manually, while the artificial intelligence can assist by making automatic course corrections. Additionally, the AI can act as a full autopilot – just tell it where to go.
- Space economy – When colonies are established, an interplanetary economy will become available. Ships can be sent carrying supplies and resources between colonies, and rare materials can be mined in order to produce new technologies.
- Satellites and probes – If a mission is too long or too risky for humans to endure, a satellite or space probe can be set up instead. Space probes are vital for obtaining scientific data on remote space objects.
- Remember: Polaris is a work-in-progress – Polaris is still under development and new features are continually being added and improved upon. Stay tuned for a future release!
